Celebrating Small Businesses. The story how it all began.

Today is the day we celebrate Small Businesses. Like my own. And I have lots to celebrate and be thankful for. Thankful for YOU, first and foremost. And also thankful for the opportunities we have living in our great country.

I love what I do now and believe that everything happens for a reason. And I want to share with you a story how I got here.

I think it is a blessing to find your true calling. But for me it didn’t happen right away. Would you guess that I have a degree in computer programming? I worked in Real Estate, and Financial Planning. But my passion wasn’t in any of it. My dad is a chemist; very technical type. Growing up I’ve always seen chemistry as boring, and a nerdy thing. I didn’t associate it with something as beautiful as cosmetics. Then one day my life changed. I became pregnant with my first child. I was at home watching TV and clicked to a show that called “The Big Idea”, where they were covering entrepreneurs of various kinds and how they started their businesses. One of those entrepreneurs was a lady who worked as a legal assistant by day, and created her own beauty company by night. She pursued her dream...

I realized that you don’t have to be born in into the Chanel or Dior family to make your impact in the beauty market. That gave me that needed push that kicked me in high gear to explore possibilities. Not having a business mentor among my family, I knew that it would take lots of courage to start my own cosmetic company! That it is the courage and creativity that allows our individuality to shine. Being my chemist dad’s daughter revealed itself then. Having 20 years of beauty experience working with big International fashion and beauty names of course helped a lot, but being a business owner was something new. It was an opportunity I thought that wasn’t a possibility for a regular person. Ever since, I have literally worked 24-7 and love every minute of it. This is how I discovered my dream; no matter how crazy, can become a reality when you least expect it. And when you do what you love, it doesn’t feel like work. Everything falls into the place.

I love the quote that I include in my email signature: - "We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty." By Maya Angelou.

The butterfly…. It signifies many different things to me, at the same time. In a shell – the change and adaptation. The quote from Maya Angelou refers to the beauty of a butterfly that went from being a little caterpillar, then cocoon, and then turned into a beautiful butterfly. Quite a journey, from ugliness to beauty. In a deeper sense, I think everyone can relate to a butterfly in their own way. Overcoming struggles and daily challenges of life, take chances, rise above the fear of loss or being hurt, and succeed in the end. Feeling the pride and sense of personal accomplishment inspires to help others, better the world and inspire all other cute cocoons in it. We are all butterflies.

I think if our passion or heart is in what we do, then what we do has purpose and brings joy to us and the people around us, along the way.Birds sing, dogs bark, cows moo, butterflies fly, and we exude an inner call, if we allow it to express itself. If we tap into our original design, the who and why we are here, then we are in harmony with the inner symphony we are here to orchestrate - to BE.Being is a valuable thing, I believe.
